About Field & Cannon

What is Field & Cannon?

Field & Cannon is a discipleship support company founded by Brandon and Sheila Rodriguez. Brandon is an electrical engineer with a systematic theology obsession. Sheila makes sure he sums it up, restates the point, and then they argue about it until it’s usable. Together they created the Providence FieldBook. His obsession. Her translation. Your gain.

How does Field & Cannon connect to SheVersion?

SheVersion is Sheila’s personal author platform. Field & Cannon is the institutional brand she and Brandon built together to serve churches, schools, and homeschool families. They are separate brands with different audiences that complement each other naturally.

Where can I follow your content?

Brandon publishes regularly on the Field & Cannon Substack covering Christian life, apologetics, and Bible study. Subscribe at fieldandcannon.com. Sheila publishes at SheVersion.com.

About the Providence FieldBook

What is the Providence FieldBook?

The Providence FieldBook is a structured discipleship journal built on a simple, repeatable framework. Each entry walks you through observation, meaning, application, and pattern recognition using your own Scripture reading and your own life. Over time, patterns of God’s faithfulness become visible in your own handwriting. Not someone else’s testimony. Yours.

How is this different from a devotional?

A devotional gives you something to think about. The Providence FieldBook sends you directly to Scripture and gives you something to do with what you find there. There is no pre-written content telling you what a passage means or how to feel about it. The structure guides you through finding the meaning yourself and recording how God is applying it to your specific life.

Do I need a theology background to use it?

No. The framework is rigorous enough for someone with seminary training and accessible enough for a brand new believer. The methodology meets you where you are and grows with you.

How long does each entry take?

That depends on you and your season. A focused entry can be completed in 20 to 30 minutes. A deeper study might take longer. The framework is the same either way. A busy mother of three and a seminary student on summer break are both doing the same methodology at the depth their season allows. Neither one is doing it wrong.

What themes are available?

Current themes include Biology, Botany, Astronomy, and Geology. Additional themes including children’s editions and a Sunday sermon edition are in development.

Is there a digital version?

Yes. A digital PDF edition is available for those who prefer to work on a device or print their own pages.

Using the Method

Do I have to use it every day?

No. Consistency matters more than frequency. The goal is faithfulness over time, not a perfect daily record. Use it when you study Scripture and let the entries accumulate. The patterns emerge over time.

Can I use it with my family or small group?

Yes, and it works well in both settings. The framework is self-evident enough that it does not require a leader’s guide. Families can work through entries together. Small groups can share observations from individual entries as a discussion starting point.

What Bible translation should I use?

Any reliable translation works. We recommend formal equivalence translations such as the ESV, NASB, or CSB for study purposes, as they stay closer to the original language. Whatever translation you use, the goal is to understand what the text actually says before deciding what it means to you.

Where do I start in the Bible?

We recommend reading through entire books of the Bible rather than jumping around. Starting with a shorter New Testament letter like Philippians or Colossians gives you a complete argument in a manageable length. Reading a book as a whole helps you encounter the fullness of who God is rather than isolated verses out of context.
